🧭 About the Role

Southwest Expedited is seeking an experienced, detail-oriented Military Freight Manager to join our growing government freight team. In this mission-critical role, you’ll be responsible for identifying, securing, managing, and tendering Department of Defense freight through official channels.

This is a tactical, hands-on position ideal for someone who is already fluent in the Military Surface Deployment and Distribution Command’s systems and is ready to contribute immediately to a high-trust, high-stakes operation. You’ll work closely with the Director of Defense Logistics and Director of Transportation Operations to ensure secured loads are executed efficiently and on time.


🎯 Key Responsibilities

  • Source and manage military freight using:

    • TEAMS (Transportation Electronic Award Management System)

    • GFM (Global Freight Management)

    • ATR (Automated Transportation Request)

    • ETA (Electronic Transportation Acquisition)

  • Create and submit tenders in accordance with DOD routing instructions and contract requirements

  • Monitor TEAMS/GFM load boards and match available capacity with government freight opportunities

  • Coordinate closely with internal transportation operations to ensure timely and compliant pickups and deliveries

  • Ensure all documentation and digital data for military loads is submitted and stored according to government standards

  • Support carrier qualification tasks and work closely with compliance personnel

  • Help develop internal SOPs and knowledge transfer documentation as we scale the freight team

  • Maintain high-level situational awareness of freight market trends within the government logistics environment

  • Communicate directly with government transportation offices and shipping facilities when needed


✅ Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years experience working with military freight or within a defense logistics company

  • Fluent in TEAMS, GFM, ATR, and ETA systems (no training provided — this is a requirement)

  • Deep understanding of DOD freight movement, security protocols, and tendering best practices

  • Familiarity with secure cargo requirements (AA&E, Hazmat, sensitive cargo) preferred

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen and capable of passing background/security clearance screening

  • Exceptional attention to detail, process discipline, and time management skills

  • Experience working in remote/hybrid logistics teams a plus

  • Comfortable working under pressure in a lean, high-performance environment
